The Story

See Alaska up close and personal with The Boat Company cruises. Incorporated in 1979 by the McIntosh Foundation, The Boat Company is the only non-profit educational organization offering luxury eco-cruises through Southeast Alaska. With over 40 years of cruising and conservation in Alaska's Inside Passage, The Boat Company has reinvested between $25 and $30 million into conservation efforts throughout the region.

The itinerary is flexible and spontaneous—tailored to accommodate your interests and fitness level. With one crew member for every two guests, you will choose each day from a wide variety of activities: early morning kayaking, beach-combing, trolling for king salmon or halibut, challenging hikes through ancient forest, gentle meadow walks, fish-printing, games and naturalist talks in the salon, whale watching, even (occasionally) relaxing on the fantail with a cool drink and a good book. Our guests don't just view the magnificent land from the deck as they cruise by...they get off the boat and touch it!

When you cruise Alaska with The Boat Company you will be surprised by the weather.  Protected by tall coastal mountains and warmed by Japanese currents off the Pacific Ocean, Southeast Alaska’s temperate marine climate is characterized by comfortable year-round temperatures, with average summer days in the 60′s or low to mid 70′s and cool nights in the 40’s and 50’s.

The Boat Company vessels are perfect for glacier watching; up close by skiff (with cocoa and warm, fresh cookies) or from the fantail dining area as you linger over lunch. We’ll land you on deserted beaches for a stroll among the tide pools or anchor in close for kayaking adventures and hikes – tailored to your activity level – among virgin forests, muskegs and alpine slopes.

It’ll be an adventure you’ll never forget!

The Boat Company has spent almost 40 years cruising Alaska, offering small boat tours carrying just 20 to 24 guests. We provide a more intimate setting for our passengers, a higher degree of personal attention from the crew, and greater freedom to go “off-itinerary” and craft a truly memorable Alaskan adventure for you. The Liseron and the Mist Cove are the perfect vessels for your family vacation, fishing charter or wilderness discovery adventure!

M/V Liseron was built in 1952 in Seattle, sold to France as a minesweeper, and then acquired and lovingly restored in 1989 by The Boat Company. She is 145 feet long and 28 feet wide with a draft of 8.5 feet.

Several years ago, we built the M/V Mist Cove patterned on the Liseron but designed from scratch. She’s 157 feet long and 33 feet wide, with a draft of almost 9 feet, and constructed of heavy-duty aluminum. The interior is plush and stately with mahogany accents throughout.

Cancellation Policy

The Boat Company is a non-profit educational organization incorporated in the State of Alaska.  Unlike cruise ship operations carrying hundreds or even thousands of passengers, if you reserve with us and then later find you must cancel, it will significantly impact our ability to cover expenses.  Thus deposits and payments are refundable (less a $500 per person processing fee) only upon receipt of your written cancellation by December 1st of the year before your scheduled trip.

The refund policy differs from most Orvis trips. Your deposit is refundable less $500 prior to December 1st. After December 1st, deposits are non-refundable for any reason. We highly recommend that you get travel insurance that covers trip cancellation.

After December 1st refunds depend on reselling your space at the same price (less a $500 per person  processing fee).  If you do not have someone to take your place, we promise to do our best to re-sell it for you; however, we cannot guarantee success.  Due to our need for a strict cancellation policy, we strongly recommend that you purchase travel insurance.

* Please Note: Prices are subject to change.  Every effort has been made to produce pricing information accurately.  The Boat Company reserves the right to correct promotional or pricing errors at any time, or to increase the price in the event of cost increases due to park fee increases, state and/or federal taxes, fuel surcharges, etc.

Rates start from: You can find all pricing information at: The Boat Company

The balance will be charged automatically to the credit card used for the deposit, unless otherwise specified. Any changes made to the method of payment after the final balance has been collected are subject to processing fees.
