If you’re planning on lots of summer activities with your dog, keep plenty of water on hand at all times, along with your dog’s travel or collapsible bowls. Flea and tick prevention is also a must for summer, so talk with your vet about the best prevention methods for your region or wherever you’ll be traveling. Cooling wraps or cooling bandanas should be on the must-have list, too, as well as a dog life jacket if you plan to go boating (especially with a breed like a Bulldog or Dachshund that has a tough time swimming).
When you go summer camping with your dog, you need to bring plenty of water, a cooling wrap or bandana, a tie-out to keep her secured at the campsite, and plenty of eco-friendly poop bags. We travel with a portable trash bin, too, in case there are no dumpsters or cans for the poop bags. A travel dog shower comes in handy when she inevitably finds the carcass or whatnot to roll in when your back is turned. You’ll absolutely need a portable dog first aid kit and a tick removal tool, too.
Prepare your dog for summer heat by making sure you’re keeping her cool and hydrated. Have more fresh water available for your dog during the hot months, and you may need to get her a cooling wrap. Don’t shave your dog, though! Their coats are designed to keep them cool, especially double-coated breeds like Huskies and Chow Chows. For these guys, stay on top of brushing them so their coat will be lofty and allow for air circulation. For long- and curly-haired breeds, like Poodles or Pomeranians, a short cut (not a shave!) will help keep them cool.
We have all the summer dog essentials you need to make the most of the season—it’s the best time to get outdoors and on the water with our fun-loving companions. Long summer days and warm nights mean we get to spend even more time outside with our dogs, so a reliable personalized collar or harness is a must. Get your water dog a nylon side-release buckle collar with their name embroidered on it (for free!). Nylon is super water-friendly, and you can toss the collar into the washer when it gets stinky. Or you can go with our personalized No-Stink Reflective Collar. Floating dog toys are a must for boat trips, riverbanks, and shorelines. We’ve also got bumpers for bird dogs and plenty of natural rubber toys for hours of fetch. When your dog’s ready for a rest, a good nap cradled in our cozy RecoveryZone® Dog Bed gives her joints and muscles the support they need. We all know it’s important to keep our dogs sufficiently hydrated and help prevent overheating, especially in summer heat, so we added a special cooling dog vest to this collection, along with travel water bottles and collapsible bowls. The downside of summer … is ticks. But our tick mitt or our handy Opinel pocket knife with a tick removal tool will make it easy to remove them. Have a great summer with your dog—we know we’ll be having a blast with ours!
