Orvis-Endorsed Wingshooting Guide
Orvis is pleased to offer our travel customers access to two valuable services: Global Rescue travel membership and IMG Signature Travel Insurance℠.
Guiding includes: Guide, dogs, the use of Orvis double shotguns, RST ammunition, beverages, and bird processing. Full-day hunts include lunch. Client dogs are welcome. Lodging is additional and separate. Lodging information can be found at our website.
Supportive, waterproof, comfortable boots are the most important piece of gear. We suggest wearing brier pants. Please have a field jacket with the required amount of blaze orange, shooting glasses, and hearing protection. Be prepared for changing weather conditions and wear layers and pack rain gear. All hunters will need a valid New York State hunting license. Woodcock hunters must also register with the Migratory Bird Harvest Information Program (HIP).
Clients are encouraged to bring their favorite shotgun. We offer Orvis doubles for client use at no additional charge. We also include RST ammunition. For clients using their own equipment, we recommend double shotguns in either 20 or 28 gauge along with ammunition in 7 ½ shot.
Grouse: September 20 through February 28 Woodcock: October 1 through November 14
Our hunts for wild grouse and woodcock are generally done on flat to rolling uneven terrain in thick cover. This is a challenging hunt and busting through heavy brush is not uncommon. That said, once you experience the romance of pursuing the "King of Game Birds" it becomes addictive.
Weather can vary drastically throughout the season. Most important is a comfortable water-resistant pair of boots. Rain and cold weather gear is also a must.
Rates start from: $550 for a full day for one or two hunters You can find all pricing information at: www.catskillcc.com
We pair one guide per one or two hunters. We have multiple guides available to accommodate larger groups.
We run English Setters. We encourage our clients to bring their own dogs. It is a great chance to get your gun dog on wild birds. Both pointing and flushing dogs can be successful in our cover.
Lodging is additional and separate. Lodging information can be found at our website.
