The Story

The 1856 is made to be fished. When modern design philosophy meets a classic material, something incredible is bound to happen. This 8' 5-weight rod was inspired by larger Western rivers, and is at home on waters from the Delaware River to Silver Creek. Hollow build means both light weight and quick rebound with less vibration and bounce, while a downlocking nickel silver reel seat with Vermont maple burl insert and a 6.5" full wells cork grip mean performance designed to do more than just rest on the mantel. A progressive flex means you can under-line for a faster feel, or over-line for a slower cast. This gives you an opportunity to play with preferred loading for various situations.

Before each bamboo rod leaves our shop in Vermont, it receives a critical hand inspection by our master rod builder. Our quality control is so stringent that we guarantee your rod to be free from defects for as long as you own it. Any repair that we make to the rod because of a defect in workmanship will be done for free—including inspection, labor, parts, and return postage, Your dealer is not authorized to make repairs under this warranty.

If you return a rod to us for repair due to an accident or carelessness, our rod repair department will send you a written estimate for your approval before any repairs are initiated.
