Orvis Week at The Delphi Club
1-800-547-4322 Mon-Fri, 9am - 5pm (ET) orvistravel@orvis.com
Secluded, tranquil and surrounded by dense vegetation, the Club stands some fifty feet above sea level and offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. The Lodge consists of eight well-appointed rooms, six on the ground floor and two on the third floor. Rooms come with the choice of selecting a king-size bed or queen-size twins. Each room features a private outdoor sitting area that offers guests panoramic ocean views. Delphi can accommodate 12 anglers in their own beds or 16 guests with couples.
Outside, the landscaped gardens feature bougainvillea, frangipani, oleander, hibiscus, Ficus, and a wide variety of palms and other shrubs. The Great Room at the center of the house features a generous dining table (which can seat twenty-four people), a discreet honesty bar, abundant comfortable seating, and ocean views right from the dining table. With fine antiques and an overhead gallery full of fishing paraphernalia, the Great Room is full of character and atmosphere. Relax with a cocktail in the great room or steal a quiet moment with a book in the well-appointed library. There’s an attractive infinity pool and patio with comfortable sun loungers. Meals are special occasions held in the great room. Our renowned chef draws inspiration from using the freshest seasonal ingredients paired with only the finest wines from the extensive cellars.
It’s important to note that the Club is not a hotel in any conventional sense. There are no bellhops or room service—it is a relaxed gathering of kindred spirits in a spectacular location with the best of everything.
Day 1: Arrival
Take a direct flight to Marsh Harbour from; Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Orlando or Atlanta. The Delphi Club is approximately 35-45 minutes from the Leonard M. Thompson International Airport (MHH, MYAM) in Marsh Harbour. Transfers are included in the price of your trip. Once you are checked in you'll have time to relax on the wrap-around deck with a drink, take a walk on the beach, or for those whom are itching to fish, get your line wet on the home flats in front of the lodge.
Day 2: Classroom Day
Following breakfast, you will gather for the classroom portion of your trip. While we call it "classroom" time, this is like no class you've taken before. With the Carribbean as your backdrop you will learn about, fly-selection, saltwater knots, casting and delivering your fly in a 360° arc, fishing with a guide, how to be a good boat-mate, and more. Throughout the week your instructor/host will be available to help you with any questions or techniques you would like to brush up on.
Days 3-5: Guided Fishing
Your morning begins with breakfast in the great room at 7:00AM then heading out with the guides by 8:00AM. Anglers are provided with a picnic lunch cool box and their choice of drinks. Anglers normally fish in pairs with a guide, however, single occupancy boats may be available at an extra charge.
The great majority of the fishing is from the bow of a skiff, but there may be opportunities for wading, especially at Cherokee Sound or Sandy Point. Most of the fishing, however, is normally on the west side of Abaco in the Marls, where wading is a bit more difficult. Bonefish and other species are sometimes caught right off the Club beach.
The Club guides and launch points for the boats are rotated during the week to provide maximum diversity of scenery and opportunity. Boat launches are normally just a 10-20 minute drive away from the Club, although we sometimes range further afield.
A typical fishing day can last anywhere between 5 - 8hrs with a return back to the Club by 4:30PM or 1:30PM on short days. Once back at the lodge there should be plenty of time for a shower or a dip in the pool before cocktail hour at 6:30PM, followed by dinner at 7:15PM.
Day 6: Departure
Check-out at The Delphi Club is 10 am. Guests will be expected to pay any gratuities and settle their accounts at the end of their stay. The Delphi Club accepts Visa, MasterCard and American Express. Payment by cheque is not accepted.
The islands of the Bahamas represent the bonefish capital of the world, and many count Abaco as a rare jewel. Abaco’s fishery is expansive but receives relatively light pressure, making for large numbers of cooperative fish. The famous Marls on the west side of the island offer over 200 square miles of first-class bonefish flats, which also give anglers occasional shots at permit and tarpon in the summer. On the east side, the sandy flats at Cherokee Sound, the Bite of Ole Robinson, Snake Cay, and a host of secret spots provide great bonefishing options, including some gorgeous wading flats, which play host to bonefish that can push into the double digits. Delphi guests also fish out of Sandy Point and from there can fish Gordaand Moore’s Island with plenty of permit sightings in the summer. Anglers fish 1-2 per boat on brand new Hells Bay skiffs, though solo options can be arranged.
