Brown Trout Fly Fishing LLC is open year-round, and generally mild southern temperatures offer good opportunities even during the winter.
North Carolina streams provide the opportunity to catch rainbow, brown, and brook trout in the same day, year-round. Tennessee tailwaters are brown and rainbow trout only.
Asheville, North Carolina is the epicenter of Southeastern Fly Fishing. The diversity of the Trout Fishing options we have is unrivaled in the East.
Our North Carolina Wade Trips include everything from small stream, hike-in brook trout fishing to more open mid-sized freestone Trout streams. These rivers include, but are not limited to the Davidson River, Green River, Pigeon River Drainage, Laurel River, North Mills River, and the Ravens Fork of the Oconoluftee.
Our Trout Float Trips take place on big wide open tailwater rivers that provide ample room to cast and opportunities at larger trout. These rivers include the Tuckaseegee River in North Carolina and the Watauga River and South Holston River in Tennessee. The Tuckaseegee River is the most heavily stocked river in North Carolina and the Watauga and South Holston have the best hatches in the South East.
Asheville also has a ton of Smallmouth Bass in the French Broad River, the Pigeon River, the Nolichucky and the Toe River. All of this is within one hour of Asheville, “the Paris of the South.”
The fishing season in North Carolina is year-round.
Spring: temperatures are often highs in the 70s, but can be as cool as 50. Bring a rain jacket because we often have spring rains. This is the best time to fish on North Carolina freestone streams.
Summer: temperatures are usually highs in the upper 80s, lows in the 60s. We get frequent, but short (30 min.), showers many afternoons.
Fall: temperatures are dropping by late September—highs in the 70s, lows in the 50s.
Winter: lows in the 30s, highs in the 40s-50s. Fishing in winter is often done midday only. We do get a few snows a year.
