Orvis-Endorsed Fly-Fishing Guide
Enjoy the wisdom and expertise of Orvis-endorsed guide Captain William Townsend on your fly-fishing adventure in Texas. Growing up in South Texas, William was raised fishing the waters off the Texas Gulf Coast and Mexico. As a young boy you would often find him wading along the coast with either a fly rod or spinning rod in hand. William was fascinated with the art and skill of catching and releasing creatures of the sea. He soon began sketching pictures from the many offshore and inshore adventures that he, his family, and childhood friends had pursued.
In 2009, William started guiding fly fishers, in pursuit of redfish and trout along the Gulf Coast. He longed to find a way to combine his day job with his passion for fly-fishing, and this allowed him to engage in his love of fishing, art, and design, as well as being able to connect with his local waters.
William's artistic ability to capture the emotion and feelings of the angler as they pursue their catch is second only to his skill on the polling platform. William's love for guiding and fishing is clearly shown in his photography and artwork.
Orvis is pleased to offer our travel customers access to two valuable services: Global Rescue travel membership and IMG Signature Travel Insurance℠.

Weather in South Texas is usually warm but combined with the gulf sea breeze it can be pleasant on the water. Spring, summer, and fall you can expect temperatures in the 90s F with a higher humidity. In the spring, we still have the occasional front passing through that will increase wind and rain opportunities. Summer brings higher temperatures with possibility of afternoon showers. The warmer temperatures are still carried through in the early fall; as we approach winter months, we will have occasional cold fronts push through cooling the temperatures down. Early winter, temperatures may still be in the 80s but by January and February you will have increased cold fronts, which will cause temperatures to be in the 40 to 60 range.
Year-Round Fishery
The coastal bend is unique in many ways, starting the day wading or polling white sand flats, and in the afternoon we can be floating above beautiful saltwater grass flats in less than two feet of gin clear water. If we venture into the back lakes, we can be on mangrove or saltgrass shorelines looking for tailing or schooling redfish. The water temperatures can range from 50 degrees F in the winter upwards of 80 F in the summer. On the eastern shoreline we are bordered by barrier islands, some with small coastal communities others with rolling sand dunes. We are fortunate to have many bay systems and estuaries located to the north and south of Corpus Christi, Texas, which we may experience during our adventure. This area is also home to one of the largest bird migrations in the world.

No. I pride myself in helping others with casting and teaching all aspects of fly fishing.
It can be windy at times but in Texas if you wait for the weather, you will never fish. I work hard to help my clients achieve their goals, no matter the conditions we are presented with, as long as it can be done in a safe manner.
No. All fish are released unharmed.
