Orvis-Endorsed Fly Fishing Lodge
Hill Farm is an Orvis-Endorsed Fly Fishing Lodge easily accessible from the New York and Boston metropolitan areas. Hill Farm offers our guests a world-class fly fishing experience on the famed Battenkill River and the best of both “town and country.” We are located on a 235-year-old, 70-acre historic dairy farm in Southern Vermont’s Green Mountain range, with over a mile of the Battenkill running through our property. Everywhere you walk, you’ll find river access points and endless Green Mountain views.
Brew Moscarello of Trico Unlimited heads our experienced and friendly guide team. Brew is an Orvis 2025 Guide of the Year finalist and a long-time local. Hill Farm operates an on-site limited Orvis gear, apparel, and fly shop. Just 5 miles down the road is Manchester, Vermont, home of The Orvis Company, with its Flagship retail store, Fly Fishing School, and Wingshooting school. Manchester is also a quintessential Vermont getaway, with great shops, restaurants, and cultural options, including the American Fly Fishing Museum.
In addition to fly fishing, Hill Farm has many on-site activities for you and your group to enjoy, including our walking trails, swimming pool, tours of our market garden (which supplies vegetables and flowers to our inn and restaurant), lawn games, and fire pits. Hill Farm is a great home base from which to enjoy the many recreational offerings of Southern Vermont.

Fishing in Southern Vermont is typically at its best early in the morning and late afternoon, so we recommend that our guiding activity is split into two segments: 8:30 am–12:30 pm and 3–7 pm. Guests can opt for a full day that includes these two segments with a boxed lunch and some free time at Hill Farm in between (casting pond, swimming in the pool, hiking, or just resting), or they can choose to fish for a half day (either the morning or afternoon segment).
A full day at Hill Farm typically entails:

Hill Farm Inn is a special place for fly fishing because of its extensive and mostly sheltered frontage on the Battenkill River in Southern Vermont, surrounded by the beautiful Taconic and Green Mountain ranges.
The Battenkill River is often referred to as the “home of fly fishing” due to its long history of renowned trout fishing, particularly wild brown and brook trout, coupled with its association with The Orvis Company, which was founded on its banks in 1856, making it a “mecca” for fly fishing development and culture in the United States.

Historical significance: The Battenkill has a long history of fly fishing, with many notable anglers having fished its waters, contributing to its legendary status.
Conservation efforts: Organizations like Trout Unlimited and The Orvis Company actively work to protect and maintain the health of the Battenkill ecosystem.
Full Day: $650 per guide for up to two anglers ($325/angler for 2 anglers) Half Day: $400 per guide for up to two anglers per guide ($200/angler for 2 anglers).
