Orvis-Endorsed Fly-Fishing Guide
Go fly-fishing in Charleston, South Carolina with Orvis-endorsed guide Peter Lawson-Johnston:
“Ever since the age of eight, it has been a dream of mine to become an Orvis-Endorsed Fly-Fishing Guide. I have been fly fishing my entire life. Whether it be striped bass in New England, redfish in South Carolina, tarpon in Florida, bonefish in the Bahamas, or permit in Mexico, I absolutely love saltwater fly fishing. I enjoy the challenge it presents to both the angler and the guide, the satisfaction and accomplishment you feel after every catch and release, and the grand beauty and scenery of the places fly fishing takes me. Charleston is one of the most popular and charming cities in the entire world; having such a great and healthy fishery surrounding the place is a perfect combination. A short run in any direction, and you are soon engulfed in the vastness of the salt marsh. Our goal is to make sure every angler gets the full experience of a day on the water, and if you can end up sticking a few nice redfish on a fly rod, it is an experience you won't soon forget.”
Orvis is pleased to offer our travel customers access to two valuable services: Global Rescue travel membership and IMG Signature Travel Insurance℠.

Fly rods of your own anywhere from 7- to 12-wt. depending on the targeted species. Everything up to 10-wt. can be loaded with floating WF warm water fly line. 11- & 12-wt., it usually helps to have intermediate or sink tip. I always recommend bringing a rain jacket as storms are possible and a good hat and good polarized sunglasses. Lightweight long-sleeved quick-dry clothing is also paramount during the summer months.
Snacks, food (unless otherwise requested), face mask, nippers, or pliers.
We operate year round. *most of the targeted species is best from April - December.
Charleston, SC, inshore fishing is mainly done from the barrier islands, in the rivers, creeks, and bays, and the surrounding interior salt marsh. Expect to run anywhere from 10-30 miles on a regular day, traveling and fishing in the shallow water areas against oyster beds, mudflats, sand flats, and up in the spartina grass during floods.
